Album // Inversion by Karmelloz; An Ambient Trip into the Cyber-Netherworld

Karmelloz has long been a favorite here at anothercountyheard, and his last couple of albums (Source Localization  and 2013's Bud Air)  have seen his star rising, attracting the notice of notable music journalist Adam Harper (Dummy, The Fader, Wired) and generally getting love for his futuristic dirty techno beats. His latest release Inversion  finds him eschewing the comfort of familiar territory and plunging headlong into a pool of cyber-noir ambient  music reminiscent of Pete Namlook's space music, but combined with noise elements. Titles like "Athenic Fall", "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" and "Ancient Mariner's Crash Report" suggest visual starting-points for the abstract noise-scapes to paint their colorful and alternately beautiful and menacing  images. The last two tracks are a tour-de-force; close your eyes and listen to "City of Roses" and the 38-minute epic "Vasovagal Response", utterly convincing and uncompromised music from the outer edge.

Inversion is available as a limited cassette and as a free download from Hoko Sounds.

Download: xX: UNIVERSAL RESONANCE:Xx by UNDRGRNDLVXVRY

This is a carefully curated and excellent free comp from up-and-coming Seattle label UNDRGRND// LVXVRY, with a line up of previously unknown (to me) artists, all of whom turn in interesting original tracks. The sound is post-trap, futuristic chilled instrumental trip-hop. The first two tracks should convince you.

F ∆ U X E's Oh Fuck Another Beat Tape EP

I fux with Fauxe, one of my favorites.  He is  a seriously under-rated and consistently inventive beatmaker, whose work spans witch-house, ambient, shoegaze, and in this case, instrumental hip-hop. The Oh Fuck Another Beat Tape EP is finds the Singapore based producer paying homage to Donuts  on a 'beat tape' that develops lots interesting beats and rhythms but never stagnates. The sampling mines some excellent unheard material. Grab the free download, and check out all of his music. I recommend it.

Album: Sam Hatzaras 2007-2012

Sam Hatzaras is the Canadian musician behind   ƸC†OPL∆SM G∞gle, WHITE TRI∆NGLES and 5 or 6 other projects. The witch-y, psychedelic blend of trip-hop and ambient music on this compilation has captivated me on each listen. It's rich and well produced, and rises above the net-music ghetto, and into the  realm of serious electronic music.

The limited edition tape has sold out, and the release is now a free download, but he has  kept to the cassette format for the digital release,  an 'A' side and a 'B side'.  The material works well as a set, and the inability to skip encourages one to listen through. You will be glad you did.

The busy Hatzaras runs the label Revolving Door Records
--- jump to their Bandcamp and look through the many amazing releases.

EP: WiToWMaKeR "Where Are"

Witowmaker is a recording project of Chris Danko, of Religious Girls and a half-dozen other projects (including TOO DEEP, blogged here yesterday). Where Are is lush ambient/experimental music, and a free download from AMDISCS. Definitely worthy, the sound quality is rich--nothing lo-fi about it---and the tracks hold up well to repeated listening. Download the zip from HERE.

Premiere: NEED A NAME Ambient Mixtape

Need A Name's Dario Lupo is not only one of the most prolific and consistently excellent purveyors of spaced-out ambient electronic shoegaze, he is also an enthusiastic and knowledgeable fan of the genre, who promotes other artist's music as much as his own. He's been quietly growing the Need A Name brand since 2011, with last years' album release What You Were, What I've Become being named as one of our favorites of 2012, and gaining an impressive 10,000 Soundcloud followers and 13, 000+ likes on Facebook!

When Dario broached the idea of doing an all ambient mixtape, I was like, "Yeah c'mon! You're perfect for this gig!" The set is true ambient, that is, it's entirely without beat or rhythm. The 'ambient' tag is much-abused of late, and this mixtape presents true ambient music in all its' droning, shining glory; the perfect cure for dance music overdose.

I was going to say "For true ambient fans only", but are some of you beat-freaks may not be fully acquainted with the genre, and this is a great place to start.  True ambient music is capable of sustaining different levels of attention. One might fully attend to listening, or just as easily study, while enjoying the music. The absence of beats does something to alter the sense of time in the music. The right mind-set is essential to the full ambient experience. I urge you to listen to it for the first time as I did; I downloaded, and listened as I was making an hour-long commute, without skimming or skipping.  The set accumulates weight as it builds toward a stunning climax. So don't be in a hurry, and open yourself to beauty without the beat.

Jahnne // And I Would Again For You

The lights' gift changes every hour. Patterns emerge only to dissipate and fade. The breeze animates the leaves and the light dances. My eye is a POV camera. This is my daytime forest soundtrack. From Australia via Flash Forest. And I Would Again For You by Jahnne
